My Style: Lazy Saturdays

So yesterday I decided to spend the whole day with my boyfriend since today is actually our five month anniversary but I knew it would be impossible to tear him away from his beloved football especially anything that has to do with the Steelers because his cousin plays for them (personally I don't get it and I will admit that I fell asleep in the Steelers game much to his dismay). But anyway here is what I wore for our lazy Saturday.

We started the day by lounging around for far too long and then he surprised me by taking my car to get washed (it really needed it) and then we went to an early lunch at Chipotle which is amazing and if you haven't gone there you need to go as soon as possible. Then we went shopping at the mall, I surprisingly did not buy one thing however he left with a pair of Nikes. We came back to his place and watched one of my all-time favorite shows...

I got seasons 1-3 of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica on Ebay for only 10 dollars and I was so excited! So he begrudgingly let me watch some of season 1 with him (I think he secretly enjoyed it lol). We then capped off the night by ordering a pizza and watching a movie. All in all a great night!
Also at work I recently had a phone interview for the General Merchandise Manager position and while I know they can't see what your wearing I still wanted to dress up because I feel that it makes you more confident if you know that you look good and ready for the position. Here is what I wore

I was on the phone with the boyfriend when I was taking these shots so thats why I'm smiling like an idiot :)
I have another interview tomorrow so wish me luck and I'll let you know how it goes!

She's got the Write Style: Lauren Conrad

Hey!

So I'm back (this time within the year lol) and I want to talk about someone whose style has really been influencing me of late. And that person is Lauren Conrad. Coming from an avid Laguna Beach fan when I heard they were doing a spinoff I was excited but a little unsure. I mean I liked LC but did she have what it takes to make a show work completely centered around her? Well let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. I loved The Hills and it was while watching it that I noticed Lauren's style change from Cali girl with her tanks and jeans to a true style icon. And it has only been getting better since. I love the way her outfits are literally something I would take from her and throw on myself. So many celebs have great outfits but you know you could never pull it off, but with Lauren I fell like her style is exactly like mine. I broke her style down into three basics: tees, blazers, and leggings.

Lauren Conrad

So first I noticed that LC wears a lot of blazers. Mostly structured and black but she has been known to wear other kinds too. Second, she wears a lot of what she calls the all-american outfit and that is jeans and a t-shirt. She usually wears a somewhat baggy t-shirt and all kinds of jeans, skinnies, boyfriend, lightwash, darkwash, you name it she's more than likely worn it. And thirdly, she wears numerous pairs of leggings. Whether going to the gym or going out for an evening on the town Lauren can be found in a variety of legwear. Here are some examples of Lauren's style.

My Style: I'm a workin' girl now

Hi All!
I've missed blogging on here but I have been crazy busy since I've graduated. I've been looking for jobs EVERYWHERE!! But anyone looking for a job right now knows that it is so hard to find anything right now. Well, I've been working at my school's bookstore in the General Merchandise area (deals with clothing and gifts, etc.) since my senior year just for some extra cash to have and recently we had our GM manager leave so now I'm thinking of applying for the position because if I can't find anything else why not take what's right in front of me? So I've been considering that and it's just been really hectic. But I made the decision last night that I want to still continue doing what I love (writing) so I decided to take up blogging again (we'll see how long it lasts). I did take the time to take some pictures of my latest outfit. Since my manager has left I've had to step in and pretty much take over the position so I've been dressing more business casual lately (although I really do miss my jeans). Here is my outfit for yesterday. Note: It has been crazy cold here in Florida so I've been layering alot lately (and by crazy cold I mean like 30 to 50 which I know isn't that cold to alot of people but when you've lived in Florida for almost 6 years you get used to warm weather.

I got this nail color for Christmas and I am obsessed with it! It goes on so smooth and it looks almost beige. I love it!! Sorry for the messy closet pics but it is so cold I don't even want to be outside.

In another note I started dating an amazing guy in August (almost right after I graduated) and he totally bought me flowers and when I read the card it said "Just because" Isn't that the sweetest thing!! I had to take pics and share it with you guys. Aren't they beautiful?!

So yeah that's my life so far. I'm going to try to post as often as possible but we'll see. Stay tuned!

The Write Style: Blame it on the alcohol

So one of my good friends invited me to go out to a bar tonight with her which I am really excited about because we always have such a good time and because I haven't been out in a while so I think it's time to let my hair down, so to speak. But the only thing is that we're going with this guy that she's started seeing, her roomate and her boyfriend, and her cousin and her husband. I'm afraid that I'm going to feel like the extra on a bad sitcom. Everyone lovey dovey and me drowning my sorrows in alcohol. My friend said that she has a guy named Chad coming but I've met him and he is definitely not my type. So my only hope is that there is some hot guy at the bar that will make this trip worthwhile. Ok well enough of my issues here is an example of the outfit I will be wearing for all of you who are interested.

In other news I graduated from college last week!!! It was the most amazing feeling in the world. I am just now coming down off the rush and having the week off work is a plus. I'm going to enjoy my night and hopefully post pictures soon!

My style:black and blue

So I'm joining the ranks of fashion bloggers and starting to post pictures of my daily outfits. This one I wore to my internship at Jacksonville Magazine, the dress code is business casual but I like to add flair to the outfits to keep it individualized. One thing I realized about my style is that I LOVE black. But when I wear black I always add pops of color like the blue skirt. My friends and I were joking the other day about it because whenever we go shopping I always leave with at least one thing that is black. It's just that black can be either dressy or casual depending on how you acessorize.

My internship has been going really well, they let me write alot (which is why I havent written on here in awhile). I have already seen our July issue come out (with my namill have in it!!!!) and I still have articles in the August issue and a couple of others. One thing that doing this internship has taught me is that working in magazines is really what I want to do. The only thing is that it's pretty much the only magazine in Jacksonville and they are not looking to hire so I have to look elsewhere for jobs but it's hard to find jobs in cities where you dont live. I haven't given up hope yet but at this point I'll take what I can get. Anyway, enough about me. I'll be writing soon!

Sorry for the cheesy indoor pictures I'll try to get some outdoor ones soon.

Write Here, Write Now

So I recently found out that I got an internship for the summer with Jacksonville Magazine! I was so excited, I really wanted to do my senior internship with a magazine because my dream is to one day work for a magazine. And every great communications student knows that the only way to get anywhere in this business is by working your butt off from the bottom, specifically as an intern. So I will be starting that mid-May and then hopefully graduating July 30th. I cannot wait to graduate and start working, I know that sounds weird but when you've been in college for five years you tend to get burnt out. Plus, I'll be doing what I love and so I can't think of anything more fun than writing and getting paid for it.

Today my Magazine Feature Writing teacher gave my class some really good advice. He said there are two things you need to worry about when looking for a job, first, make sure it is something that you love doing and would do for free if you had to, and second, make sure it's something you're good at. I think this is great advice because in today's economy it is so easy to go for the job that will pay well but it's usually the one you dread getting up to go to.

Here are some of my published clips.

1. This is a story that I did about the Mandarin Adoption Center for the Florida Times-Union. I talked about how the economy is affecting animal adoptions and what they are doing to combat this. To read the entire story click here.
2.This is another story that I wrote for the Florida Times-Union website. It is also about how animals are affected by the economy and how many are being abandoned (and yes those are my puppies in the pic). To read more of this article click here.

3. Last semester I took a class called Applied Journalism. It was honestly one of the best classes I ever took if not the best! And one of the projects we did was called the Hope Fund, and our class joined up with the Florida Times-Union and HandsOn Jacksonville, a volunteer organization, and our class wrote stories for the Florida Times-Union about families that needed either money or some type of support and we helped raise money for the families through writing these stories. My teacher approached me during this time and asked if I would write the first story that would run in the TU (it was a huge honor) and of course I agreed. For this article I got the chance to interview the sweetest lady about her struggles with a disability and how our organization helped her last year. To read more about her struggles and how she overcame them click here.

4. I also was able to interview another family for the Hope Fund, along with another guy from my class. We got to talk to a family of refugees from Africa about how they finally got the chance to come here and what it was like living there. One of the coolest things was that they didn't speak any English so we had to have a translator. So much fun! To read this story click here.

5. In my free time I am also writing for a website called examiner.com (if you've never been there then definitely check it out). I am the Jacksonville Budget Fashion Examiner, which means that I write alot of articles about how to dress like your favorite celebrity on a budget or I give you the trends and how to wear them. Click here to look at some of my articles, I think you'll really enjoy them!

6. I was able to meet and interview a local singer named Katie Grace Helow who is extremely talented, and if you haven't heard her music you have to check her out on myspace. Instead of writing a traditional article, however, I was able to turn the interview into a podcast that was published on the Folio Weekly's website. The Folio Weekly is a Jacksonville based paper. Here is the link for that.

7. Just recently I visited St. Claire Evans Academy Elementary School and listened to a man named Brett Dilingham, who is a world-renowned storyteller and I was able to sit down with him and interview him as well as record his performance. And I put the story together in a soundslides presentation. Watch this here.

8. I just found out that the article I wrote for Central Florida Tails Magazine is now available online. The article is about Sherri Audette who started the group FOJA. To read the article check here.

9. I have been interning with Jacksonville Magazine and I have written a lot of stories (most of which have yet to come out) but our July issue just came out and is now available online (with my articles in it) here.
This is what I have so far but be sure to check back as I am constantly adding new articles as I write them.

She's got the Write Style: Rachel Bilson

I want to start featuring celebrities and style icons that influence me and my style. So for my first post I immediately thought of Rachel Bilson! Since I first started following her style on the O.C. I have been a huge fan. And when I realized she had great style not just on the show I knew I had found style inspiration. I personally think she has great style and I love the way she can make any trend work for her. She is petite like me and so I know alot of the trends she rocks will work for smaller people.

When I was going through her pictures I could immediately pick out the main pieces to her wardrobe, but still, she manages to dress in a way that makes it almost impossible to say that she has a certain type of style. One minute she dresses boho, the next she's girly, you just never know with her. And that's one of the reasons why I think she has the Write style.

Below I came up with some of the key elements that make up an outfit by Rachel Bilson.

First, her everyday style. I love looking at candid shots of Rachel because no matter what she's doing she always looks good. I pinpointed her style to three key parts. Blazers, boots and of course, wayfarers.
  • Rachel seems to love wearing blazers and that is evident in a lot of her pictures. She rocks black ones, gray ones, even pink. I love the structured look of blazers because even worn with jeans and a t-shirt you can look like you're headed to a meeting or just hanging out with friends.
  • Another piece of clothing Rachel routinely wears are boots. She seems to have hundred of pairs. Knee high boots, ankle boots, booties. You name it, she's worn it. I also like wearing boots (when it's not too hot here in Florida) because they work with almost anything. You can pair them with dresses and skirts, skinny jeans, wideleg jeans, even leggings! So if you don't have a pair I recommend everyone own at least one pair of boots.
  • The last piece to Rachel's wardrobe, but probably the most important, is sunglasses. Wayfarers to be exact. Rarely do you find an outdoor picture of Rachel without her signature sunnies. After seeing Rachel look so chic in them I immediately went out and bought a pair and now I can't live without them. They make any outfit glamorous. And wearing them gives any outfit that "celebrity hiding from the paparrazzi" look. If you don't believe me, try them. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Next, I looked at Rachel's event style. Specifically what she would wear to an event or party. I noticed that, again while she does try different things, her main go-to style was either dresses or skirts with heels. Perhaps it is because of her small size, I know that I wear dresses when I want to look taller because a good mini dress can make your legs look like a models! Below are some pictures that I pulled of Rachel's event style.

So what do you think? Do you agree that she has the Write Style? Drop me a line and let me know!

Lots of love,
