The Write Style: Fun Ideas (and outfits) for Labor Day weekend

Guess what’s just around the corner?! Labor Day! And you know what that means…it’s your last chance to have some summer fun before fall arrives. I personally love Labor Day weekend because it’s such a chill holiday. There is nothing to do except hang out with friends and enjoy the last few summer days. I have compiled a list of some of the most fun things to do for Labor Day below.

Cookout- I love going to cookouts, not so much hosting them, because I can just hang out with friends rather than manning the grill the whole time. Still, any chance to be with my friends is good enough for me. So I might just have to see about planning one of these.

Pool or Beach Party- We recently added a pool in the backyard and I am so in love. I have yet to have a pool party so that also might be on the agenda for Labor Day weekend. For those of us that live near the ocean, a beach party is also a great idea for the upcoming break. This used to be a weekly event when I was in college and even thinking about it now makes me want to grab my beach bag, call a few friends and head over to that sandy paradise.

Shopping- What list would be complete with shopping? Tons of stores are offering sales and discounts for Labor Day and it would be foolish not to take advantage of this.

Movies: So many good movies have come out recently and they are just getting better as the year goes on. Whether you’re looking forward to some romance, action, or terror the movies can offer you all of these (plus they have popcorn, and who doesn’t love popcorn?)

Bar hopping- I’m not much for the club scene but take me to a good bar and I am all for it. I tend to prefer the more laidback atmosphere and thankfully so do my friends.

So there you go.What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend? Drop me a line and let me know!

Lots of love,

The Write Style: Reminiscing about 4th of July

America’s Independence Day just passed and I'm still reminiscing about the fun events my friends and I did and the things we can do next year now that I know about them. So, naturally I wanted to share with all of you the exciting entertainment that either was or will be available in Jacksonville. And of course this wouldn’t be a fashion blog if I didn’t include outfit ideas for each event, check them out below.

Hopefully this gives you guys some inspiration for next year.

The Write Style: Mother's Day Outfit Ideas

This week I have been racking my brain trying to come up with the best Mother’s Day gift to give to the one who has given me everything. I have also been researching fun things to do here in Jacksonville for Mother’s Day and I wanted to share a few with you. I have also come up with an outfit idea for each activity.

Mother’s Day Brunch: This is by far one of the most popular things to do on this day and here in Jacksonville is no different. My all time favorite place to get brunch here is the Crabcake Factory on Beach Blvd. They have brunch on Sundays starting at 11am. The food is buffet style all you can eat and comes with complimentary mimosas. If we decide to do brunch this is definitely where I’ll be headed. If you do decide to try it out I would recommend getting there before they open though because many of the times that I went people were already waiting outside and it wasn’t a holiday.

Mother’s Day Beach or Picnic Day: Living in a city this close to the beach, I couldn’t rule out a beach day. One of my mother’s favorite things to do is to spend the day at the beach reading a book (under an umbrella of course). So I thought it would be great to pack a picnic lunch and spend the day at the beach. One of our top places to go is Huguenot Park. Mostly because they allow you to drive on the beach so there is no hassle of having to walk back to your car because you forgot the sunscreen.

Mother’s Day Shopping: I actually wouldn’t consider this for my mother because she really doesn’t like shopping but I know when I become a mom this will be top of my list of things to do. If you’re looking for a good shopping plaza to go to here in Jacksonville, then you can’t do any better than the St. John’s Town Center. It literally has every store you could possibly need, not to mention any restaurant that tickles your fancy. I would also warn though that the Town Center is always crowded and I don’t expect it will be any better on Mother’s Day.

These are just a few of the ideas that I have for Mother’s Day  but of course there are many more. Just make sure that anything you choose will be enjoyed not just by you but also by your mother.

The Write Style: 2012 Swimwear Trends

Spring is finally here! Unless, like me, you live in Florida in which case summer is here! With these seasons come bbq’s, beach days, and pool parties. Many of us have been preparing for this for months by spending time in the gym and not partaking of that second (or third) cupcake. The hard work has finally paid off and you are bathing suit ready! The only problem is what bathing suit should I wear? I’m here to give you the top five spring/summer 2012 bathing suit trends and where to go to get the one that appeals the most to you.

One shoulder: One shoulder bathing suits have become quite popular recently and because of this they have trickled down and can now be found in many swimsuit stores and websites. These suits are classy and also trendy, which makes them very popular right now.

Cut outs: Cut outs are popular because they can be worn by anybody. The style is very flattering for most any body type and will hide the problem areas for a lot of women. They are also pretty easy to find in major retailers, which is of course a huge bonus.
Retro: One type of bathing suit that is making a comeback is the retro suit. Think 1960’s and you have an idea. For those of you that read my Mad Men post, this would be the bathing suit of Joan’s choice. It is another great choice if hiding problem areas and they go great with a pair of cat eye sunglasses!

Prints: Prints have always been big when it comes to swimsuit design and this year is no different. Be prepared for lots of florals, geometric shapes, and animal prints. Personally, I am more of a floral person but for those that love a good zebra or cheetah print this is the trend for you.

Ruffles: There is something so sweet about a cute ruffled bikini. Ruffles have been spotted all over the runways and I’m here to tell you that there are plenty of options from retailers like Asos.

Hope you are all having a good week!

The Write Style: 2012 Olympics Inspiration

With the Olympics right around the corner it is time to get into that competitive spirit and start routing for your home country. Now, I am a proud American and of course I will always cheer for them but my mother is Jamaican so I can’t help but feel a tug in my heart when I see them run track and field. No matter whom you’re cheering for you are going to want to rep your countries colors or flag. I have put together some outfits inspired by some of the countries that will be represented in the 2012 Olympics. I decided to showcase Jamaica, the UK, because they are hosting it, and of course good ole’ USA. Go ahead and take a peek! As the days get closer I’ve found myself prepping outfits and buying up shirts that will remind me of the proud place I’m from. To stock up on your gear check out my Polyvore page at ndavisunf.polyvore.com and don’t forget to tune into the real deal, the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London starting on July 27th!

Well that's all I have folks. Sorry I've been so MIA I haven't really had a reason to take outfit shots but hopefully that will change soon!

The Write Style: 2012 Spring Trend ideas

Spring is fast approaching and if any of you are like me you are already dreaming of the great outfits you can come up with for the warmer weather. Well, this post is here to help you. I have compiled a list of the top 5 trends for this spring. They are:

1.      Colorblocking: It was huge last year and will continue to be this spring so if you haven’t tried the trend yet there is still time.

2.      Fringe: It seems like all of the celebs are wearing it. It can turn any outfit into a boho chic one in seconds. I’m not huge on fringe but even I have a purse with it on there. Don’t be afraid to try something small.

3.      High low dresses and skirts: This is one trend that I didn’t know about until recently but I think it is so cute! I may have to take a trip to Forever 21 to pick up that gorgeous red skirt shown in the pictures.

4.      Peplum: Another trend I am dying to try. It reminds me of the Mad Men era and I love the clothes from then. Not to mention that the dress in the picture is only $17! I may have to get myself one.

5.      And lastly Babydoll dresses: This trend I’m not too crazy about. I mean I love the look of it but because of my build (I am biggest in my chest) I think it will just look slutty on me. But to all those who can pull it off, the style is super adorable so go out and try it.

Well, there you go the spring trends for this year. Go ahead and give them a whirl. I’m sure you’ll love them.

And in the words of Rebecca Black IT'S FRIDAY FRIDAY!!!!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and if you have plans chances are you’ve been thinking or outfit ideas since the start of February. So there you go some outfit ideas for Valentine's Day. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to wear. I'm leaning towards the black dress idea because last year I went all out with a pink dress so I kind of want to tone it back a bit this year. I'll try to post pics of what I choose!

Happy Tuesday!

The Write Style: Outfit for the Symphony

I recently got an email from my job syaing that they were giving away free tickets to our city orchestra and since it's been awhile since I've been I swiped up three tickets to take the boyfriend and my mom (because she loves music). But it wasn't until after that I thought "What do you wear to the symphony?" Well, luckily I remembered from the last time that I went. And so, because i'm awesome I have put a few outfit ideas below of what I would wear to the symphony. Here ya go!
symphony outfit

This outfit is similar to what I wore the first time I went. My godmother took me a few years ago (and because she doesn't have a daughter) I let her dress me and I actually like what she came up with.

symphony outfit 2

This is pretty close to what I will actually wear (the cheap version that is). I have these pants that are so long they hit the floor when I'm in heels so I don't wear them much and I have my giant wedges so I think the symphony will be the perfect time to bust them out. Hopefully, I will get to take outfit posts, if I can just find my camera.

Symphony Outfit 3

I was actually just planning to do two outfits and then I saw this dress on polyvore and knew I had to add it in as well. Isn't it gorgeous?!
Well, there you go. My outfit ideas. If you want to take a peak at any of my other outfit ideas head on over to my polyvore. The link is underneath all of the pics.
Ok well I will see you guys soon!
Happy Wednesday! We're halfway there ( am I the only one who couldn't get that Big Time Rush song out of my head lol)

The Write Style: Christmas Parties

It's that time of year! Christmas is just around the corner and everyone is getting into the spirit. Shopping in abundance, eating cookies and watching classic holiday movies, and of course going to awesome Christmas Parties. I decided to do a post on what to wear to a Christmas party, mainly because I have one coming up that I had no idea what to wear to. I decided to go with something similar to the formal outfit below.  I chose the dress because silver reminds me of the holidays and wrapped gifts. And after choosing the dress the rest just fell into place. Here it is.

Christmas Pary Outfit formal
The next look is for a casual party or a party at a friends house. Most people, if it's casual, will have some sort of an ugly sweater contest and I thought this red sweater was the perfect start! (To really go over the top add battery powered Christmas lights, pom poms, and of course glitter!)

Christmas Party Outfit

The last outfit is a bit of an in-between. You can wear it as an alternative for either.

Christmas Party Outfits

So there you go! Are any of you going to any parties for Christmas? Let me know!

The write style: Outfit for the Fair

Outfit for the fair
Outfit for the Fair

Last week I went with my bestie and our boys to the fair. It's held downtown every year and the boyfriend got four free tickets from his job so we decided to go. It was kind of a chilly evening but it was still nice enough that I was fine with a sweater and some boots. We had so much fun!! The best part had to be the pig races that we saw when we first came in. They were little baby pigs and they were just adorable and some of them even swam! My least favorite part the ferris wheel. I'm usually not afraid of heights but there is just something about ferris wheels. I mean how do they get those huge wheels to fit into a tiny trailer?! It just doesn't seem safe lol. But I did it, I overcame my fear (not really) and rode it.These pics are from the ferris wheel. Can you tell my smile is fake lol? Oh, and you can't see my hand cuz I'm holding on to the pole for dear life.
*all outfit photos are from polyvore. Check them out here.
