My Style: One year ago I said yes...best decision I ever made

I recently celebrated my one year anniversary with my boyfriend and it was such a good night. We made reservations at this restaurant at TPC Sawgrass and when he got off work we headed there. The food was amazing!! And the atmosphere was great. We decided to go on our actual anniversary August 23 (yes I'm really late in putting these up) which was a Tuesday, but it worked out great because the restaurant was not that crowded and we got to just enjoy our time quietly with each other. After dinner we debated doing something else, like a movie, but since it was getting late and he had work we just decided to extend our anniversary celebration another day and see a movie the next evening. We ended up seeing Rise of the Planet of the Apes (I'll write a review of it soon) and had a blast.
So here are some pics of the outfit I wore for dinner. The pants were so long! I was wearing major heels and the pants still hit the floor. But I liked the overall look.

In other news, I finally got a new job!! I'm working at Mayo Clinic and so far I love it! I've been trying to get pics of my work outfits but I go to the gym in the mornings and then come home, rush to get dressed and race to work. But we'll see I might have to make time for it.

Well, I'm headed to my uncle's house to lay by the pool and grill out and then I might go with the boyfriend to watch his beloved Michigan football team at Buffalo Wild Wings. We'll see though (you know how I feel about football) but wings do sound good...hmm decisions decisions. I'll let you know! Have a great Saturday!!

Lots of love,

My Style: Pretty in Pink

I love that movie. I love all the old Molly Ringwald movies. She was so cute and she had such great style. I'm finding myself drawn more and more to that eighties style. I was watching The Cosby Show on Netflix the other day and was loving some of the outfits they put together on there. I could probably never pull them off now but I appreciate the style. But enough on that rabbit trail.
I wanted to post this outfit that I wore over the weekend. I have been house/cat sitting at my godmother's house every weekend while she and her husband go visit their son. And I took these photos here because I love the view from their patio. Now I guess I should tell you that my godmother lives in a retirement community for active seniors and when I stay over there I am the youngest person in the whole development by at least 30 years, but for some reason I love it! It is so quiet at night because everyone is asleep by like 9 and they're all up walking their dogs at like 6am. I went for a walk around the neighborhood one evening and everyone seemed to stop and stare. But still I love the area, she has a room just for me,  and I enjoy getting away from my crazy family for awhile. Added bonus, she has cable so I can catch up on all my shows that I miss during the week because my mother doesn't believe in cable. I know...crazy! Have I ever posted pics of mi familia? No. Then I must soon. But anyway, here are the outfit shots. P.S. I LOVE LOVE LOVE  this pink blazer! I got it for $1 at my thrift store.

Also, the next night I tried a new hairstyle and I kind of loved it so I think I'll add it to my hairstyle rotation. Here are some shots of that. And excuse my eyebrows they are beyond ridiculous but I just haven't been able to go get them done yet.

Hope you guys have a great week! Happy Monday!

The write review: Captain America

So I wanted to take a break from outfit posts (mostly because I forgot to do one) and do a review. I wanted to do a book review but honestly I haven't really read a great book recently. Now don't get me wrong I love to read. In fact, I have a stack of books to my waist that I rented from the library and I'm about done with them. They were all good but just not great.

Anyway, I decided that a movie review would be a better idea so I thought why not Captain America. The boyfriend and I went to see this movie the week after it came out. Not because we didn't like it but I was out of town and he was working and our schedules didn't gel until a week after. But when we finally saw it we were so glad we did. We both loved the movie! I doubt it will win any Oscars but he was entertained by the action and I was entertained by...well Chris Evans and his amazing abs, yum :) I will admit it took a while for the movie to start but when it took off it got really good.

Now before you go start taking my word for it you should know this, the boyfriend and I are pretty easy to please movie wise. And when I say pretty I mean very. There has rarely been a movie we don't like. Maybe we just always choose the good ones to even see or we are just that easily amused. Either way we haven't had a bad movie viewing in a while and let me tell you we see a lot of movies. It's one of our favorite things to do together. But anyway back to the movie.

I felt that all of the characters were well played and the actors well selected. I loved the action, the storyline and of course the lead actor. And his transformation? Amazing. His little body looked so funny, I think I laughed out loud in the theater when it first came on. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the 3D. Pretty much the only thing that came out was the shield and that was only once. The regular was just as good and for way less. How do I know that? Because I've seen it twice in both. Sad? Maybe. But at least I could come to you and give you and honest opinion that was well researched ;)

And since we're on the subject of 3D I have to say I just don't get it. Why pay so much more for something that really is not much better? I mean I go because the boyfriend thinks it makes "such a difference" but honestly I don't see it and I'd much rather see regular 2D and not be bothered by the annoying dark glasses. Thanks.

Well that's all I got for you. Thanks for letting me rant and if you get the chance go see Captain America. You won't be disappointed.
Whoops how did that get in there lol.

Lots of love,

My Style: Preppy Jetsetter

I'm back from my much needed vacation and I have pictures to show you guys as well. I recently took a trip to Missouri for my cousin's wedding (she's 19 so it shocked me that she was getting married but I could tell she was really happy and her guy is military so I guess she had a reason). I had a lot of fun seeing people I hadn't seen since high school. I was born and raised in Missouri but moved to Florida for college and fell in love. It was a short trip but well worth it and I got a chance to see my Dad and his family. And when we came back to Florida my Dad and his kids came down and we took another short vacay to Orlando (where else would you take three kids all under the age of 7 except for Disney's home town). All in all it was a great trip but I must say after being around kids for so long it's nice to have quiet again. And I must admit I have been sleeping and basically doing nothing all day since I got back.

But after too long and no outfit post I bring you my next pull from my magic box of outfit ideas...menswear or preppy. I really wanted to do a blazer but all I have are thick ones and it being 1000 100 degrees outside I knew I would be dead within hours. So I chose to go with a pair of blue preppy shorts that I found at my $1 thrift store (I seriously love that place!), I mean the name of the clothing company is Steeplechase, it just sounds preppy!! After that I knew I had to find a top that was equally preppy. I searched and searched and finally found what I was looking for (in my sister's closet) a grey cardigan that was perfect. I finished it off with a pair of oxfords that I got from Forever 21 and voila! Here is the completed look.

I also tried a new hairstyle and I think I liked the way it turned out.

And here are a few shots that I took while on vacation

My Style: Blast from the Past

This week I pulled "Wear something from your mother's closet" and I was at a loss. I love my mom but she doesn't exactly wear my size so I thought maybe a scarf or something. But I really wanted to wear something of hers. So I dug around in her closet and found a treasure trove of great maxi skirts! These seem to range from her days in college to recent. I found a great black and white one that just so happened to be in my size and knew I had to find an outfit for it. This is what I came up with, what do you think? Have you ever tried shopping through your mom's/sister's/friend's closet? If not you should you never know what you'll find!

Hope you guys have a great week/weekend I'll be out of town but hopefully I'll have pictures for you to enjoy when I get back :)

My style: DIYed shorts

I'm loving this "pull an idea out of a box" it has really helped me get over my rut and I'm discovering things in my closet that I forgot I had. Plus, I've been daydreaming about how I will put together different ideas for the site when they get pulled.

The most recent one I pulled was WEAR SOMETHING YOU DIYed and I immedately thought of these jean shorts I had just made. I have been having trouble finding shorts to wear lately they are either too short, too long, or tight in the thigh and big around the waist so when I saw a how-to on making shorts I knew I had to try it. I bought three pairs of pants: two jeans and one navy slacks (each for $1 at the thrift store!!!) and set to work. I love the way they turned out they aren't too tight or too loose. They are the perfect summer bottoms to add to my wardrobe. Well, I'm sure you've heard enough of me rambling so here are the pics.

In other news, my friend and I were downtown yesterday and were handed free tickets to see the new movie The Help tonight and so we went. She had been reading the book and coincidentally we were talking about the movie and how we wanted to see it on the way downtown. Let me just say the movie was VERY GOOD. I had expected it to be a good movie anout the racial differences then but they did such a great job with the story. And my friend said that the book was even better so I may have to pick that up as a quic read. How about you? Any plans to see the movie when it comes out? Or do you have any other books that are being made to movies that you can recommend?

Hope you're having a great week!

My Style: Great minds think alike??

I've been in a bit of a fashion rut lately. My office at work was closed July 1st due to budget cuts and so I've done basically nothing but sit at home, watch too much TV, and apply for any job I'm qualified for (I'm more than over the being picky stage). Well the other night I decided that even though I don't have to get up and dressed for work that doesn't mean I can't get dressed at all. So I came up with this idea to take different trends and ideas I've heard of from other bloggers and magazines and put them all on little slips of paper and into a box. Now everyday I pull one of the pieces of paper and put together an outfit based on the idea on the paper. The slips are mostly random things like use a tribal print in an outfit, design a nautical themed outfit, etc. But I think it will be just what I need to get my creative fashion juices going again.

Well I pulled my first piece yesterday and it was a military-inspired outfit. So I immediately thought of my green skinny cargo pants that I bought not too long ago that I have been dying to wear but haven't really gotten to yet. So I paired that with a nuetral button up shirt and some black heels. I thought it turned out great! I wore it all morning and then I made plans to have my boyfriend come by and then we were going out. Well he showed up wearing guess what?? Green army colored pants and a neutral tan colored short sleeved shirt!! I couldn't believe it, so after that I had to change so unfortunately I have no outfit shots to show you. However I did snap these shots of us because I knew no one would believe me otherwise lol. Enjoy (and forgive me this was toward the end of the day and I was getting ready to change lol)!

Have you ever met up with someone and found that they were wearing the exact same thing as you. Do you think this happens more if two people are similar? Let me know what you think!

Lots of love,
